Pasov in one day: what to catch when you have a mere few hours

02/03/2026

Pasov is one of the most beautiful Bavarian cities and is an ideal city for a one day visit. It is located on the confluence of three rivers - Danube, Inn and Ilz and that gives the city an outstanding character.

The Old Town and St. Stephen's Cathedral

The narrow streets, pastel-colored houses, and Italian flair are no coincidence—Italian architects have shaped Passau's visual character for many years.

The centerpiece is St. Stephen's Cathedral (Dom St. Stephan). Inside stands the world's largest cathedral organ.

A Walk to the Three Rivers

It's just a short walk from the cathedral to the spot where three rivers meet. This is where the Inn, the Ilz, and the Danube converge, and their confluence creates a fascinating display of colors—the contrast is especially striking when viewed from above. Standing right at the confluence, you'll understand why Passau is rightly nicknamed the "City of Three Rivers."

Lunch with a view of the Danube

For lunch, head to one of the restaurants or bistros along the Danube. For example, Das Oberhaus offers a beautiful view of the river. Passau isn't overly touristy, so you can enjoy a decent meal at a reasonable price.

Oberhaus Lookout

After lunch, head to the Veste Oberhaus fortress. You can walk there or take the bus. At the top, you'll find the best view of the entire city and the confluence of the rivers. If you have time, take a stroll through the fortress grounds; otherwise, at least sit down for a moment and enjoy the view. It's definitely worth it...

Coffee and then back home

The Old Town offers plenty of places serving excellent coffee, with seating on the square or along the waterfront.
